Meet the Band

a little about the Musicians

Brent Parsons, Lead Vocals, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar and Harmonica

Brent's musical journey began in the picturesque town of Alpine, Texas, nestled in the heart of West Texas. Growing up surrounded by the vast landscapes and warm community spirit, he found music woven into the fabric of his everyday life. From picking up his first guitar to strumming along with friends, Brent’s passion for music blossomed early on.

Over the years, he had the incredible honor of opening for legends like George Strait and Hank Williams Jr. But perhaps one of his most cherished memories is the day he backed up the iconic Willie Nelson. Experiences like these felt surreal, yet Brent always remained grounded, seeing them as gifts rather than achievements to boast about.

His love for music didn’t just stay on stage; it flowed into his other passion: guiding tours on the stunning Rio Grande. As a professional river guide, he found a unique way to blend adventure with his love for performing. Each evening, after a day spent navigating the river's twists and turns, he’d gather around the campfire to share songs and stories, his guitar bringing people together under the vast Texan sky.

Throughout his river journey, Brent shared memorable musical moments with the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker, Rusty Weir, and Butch Hancock, each encounter enriching his artistry and deepening his love for the craft.

For more than two decades now, Brent has called Leander, Texas, home. With Austin, the Music Capital of the World, just a stone's throw away, he’s been able to immerse himself in the vibrant music scene, performing in local venues and connecting with fellow artists and music lovers alike.

Brent’s story is one of authenticity, connection, and a genuine love for music. Whether he’s playing to a packed crowd or strumming softly by the campfire, he pours his heart into every note, inviting everyone to join him on this beautiful journey through life and song.

Jim Bechtol, Vocals, Mandolin, Steel Guitar… and anything else that touches his fingers

Jim was born in 1960 in the Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas. He’s never met a genre of music he doesn’t enjoy; from Big Band spun on the turntable of his parents, to The Beatles and Rolling Stone played by his siblings, to the live Punk Rock scene he explored when he was old enough to hang out at Austin’s Raul’s and Liberty Lunch.

Music has been his life force. Jeff Beck to Lowell George, Ry Cooder to Gabby Pahinui, George Jones to Bob Dylan; these are just a few of the musicians that have contributed to Jims's life soundtrack.

Although he always wanted to play drums as a kid (parents didn’t approve) he began learning guitar in college in Lubbock. The locational influences of the Flatlanders, Bugs Henderson and the Fabulous T Birds encouraged him to explore making music verses going to class! As life evolved so did his stringed instrument curiosity. Learning guitar, mandolin, ukulele, bass and steel guitar over the years has given him many opportunities to explore his huge catalog of influences; Southern Rock, Country, Bluegrass, Blues, Hawaiian, Jazz, Americana to list a few. Jim is always learning by playing with others while expressing the wide array of sounds he hears.  Listening to and playing music gives Jim immense joy and provides him with an essential and necessary artistic expression.

Performing with the Boot Rock Boys and other fellow musicians keeps his creative juices flowing and gives him the relished opportunity to communicate the universal language of music to all!

Brad Klein, Fiddle, Electric Guitar, Bass, Vocals

Born in Seguin, Texas, Brad started playing fiddle in 2nd grade. Through the years he learned multiple stringed instruments and honed his sound playing blues, bluegrass, country, and jazz. He has settled on bass guitar, electric lead guitar, and fiddle playing. Brad has played many styles of music. Red dirt country would be his specialty at this point. He has played in rock, blues, new wave sounds of the 80’s and 90’s. Brad took a leave of absence in the 2000’s but is back with a vengeance. Red dirt and classic country are his specialties present day.

Jim "JD" Monk, Electric Guitar, Vocals

Jim Monk is a seasoned musician deeply rooted in the heart of Americana and Texas Red Dirt music. With a voice that resonates with the authenticity of the American Southwest, Jim has captivated audiences around the globe. His performances are a blend of storytelling, raw talent, and the soulful essence of the landscapes he sings about. Having performed internationally, Jim Monk brings the sounds of Texas to stages far and wide, earning him a dedicated following and critical acclaim. His music not only pays homage to the traditions of his genre but also pushes its boundaries, making him a unique voice in contemporary folk and country music.

Del Ray Sudderth, Percussion, Vocals

Del Ray was raised in a small town in the Texas panhandle where he gained his initial love of music playing drums in his junior high school band; he also took piano lessons and learned rather quickly he preferred playing percussion. He continued playing through his high school years in the marching and concert bands. The band was few in number, due to the size of the school, which afforded Del Ray the opportunity to cultivate his percussion repertoire by learning to play the cymbals, tambourine, cowbell, xylophone, chimes and the woodblock.  After high school, Del Ray’s musical career took a 40-year break…

Fast Forward…. the band began with a few guys jammin’, practicing and learning together while having a glass or two of whiskey on Wednesday nights; and was Del Ray’s first time to own and play a full drum kit!  Those early days, before the band was officially named the Boot Rock Boys, were a tremendous learning period where Del Ray appreciated the patience and talents of the band members as they worked together and honed their skills into a seasoned band.

Del Ray’s love for music spans many genres, country, classic rock, blues, red dirt, etc.

As practice dictates, Del Ray appreciates the opportunity to learn, grow and improve while enjoying time spent on and off the stage with the band members
